WHAT TO EXPECT!

SCHEDULING:

The best time of day for an outdoor session is going to be the last hour or so of daylight. Later in the day you just get that soft, glowy and magical light. Do you have little ones that go to bed early? No problem. Regardless of your schedule and your families needs we will make it work.

Are you scheduling a newborn session? The best time for these is going to be around 9am or 10am because newborns are generally less fussy in the morning and we will be shooting in the comfort of your home.

BEFORE YOUR SESSION:

Once we schedule a date for your photoshoot, we'll talk more about styling, location, and timing that best fits your family.  I write an article on WHAT TO WEAR and WHAT NOT TO WEAR, check out the links for helpful tips (your photographer will be ever so grateful! 😉)

Families that book with me will have full access to my CLIENT CLOSET, filled with beautiful outfits that will photograph well!  I know styling for a session is daunting, but I am here to help with every step along the way.  There are lots of great brands/stores in varying price ranges that I recommend to families, and I would be more than happy to consult on different outfits before the session.

I want to know your family BEFORE our session!  What is your family story?  What are your kids personalities like?  What makes you happy? My passion is to tell your story and capture it authentically through my lens.  My goal is to bring out the unique qualities in your family, child, or brand new baby!  To do that I have put a huge priority on getting everyone comfortable from the start of the session by getting to know you all ahead of time.  I'll send out a quick questionnaire once we settle on a day and time, and this will help me get to know your family better.  It helps everyone feel more relaxed and ready for the session!

DURING YOUR SESSION:

And now for the photo session!  During the first few minutes, I’ll spend some time getting to know you, talking, playing around, and just getting comfortable.  We usually have a few minutes of walking or setting things up, and it’s just a great opportunity to get to know you some more. I’m a mom of two young kids, so I have plenty of ideas on how to help kids open up a bit more and feel comfortable.

We will keep your session fun and light, and especially for little ones, we will keep them moving, play games and give them “activities” to help with.  My style is to capture real emotion and connection, not to get that picture perfect posed, everyone smiling at the camera shot. Don’t worry though, I will still capture a few, but most of your session will be what naturally unfolds with your family.

If your child is struggling to keep it together or your newborn is fussy don’t worry! The biggest tips I can give parents is to remain calm. If you get stressed your kids will sense that and it just throws the session off.  I am the mother of two little ones, I have been there, I get it! Make sure kids are well fed before the session, and bring snacks and water to your photo session if you think that would help. Just a little bit of food can be a game changer! We will hang out and let baby run the session and let the kids be kids. After all, we are together to tell your story.

What if my kids don't cooperate? How can I make the session go smoothly?

I don't expect kids to "be good" during their session. In fact, if they start acting goofy, that will probably get us some authentic smiles and laughter. Please allow your child to be themselves. The kids are in charge (but don't tell them that!). Try not to tell them this or that during our time together and your photos will turn out happy and carefree!

AFTER YOUR SESSION:

Once the memories have been captured it is time to bring your story to life! You can expect your images to be delivered in an online gallery where you may order professional quality prints and products. Your gallery may be shared with friends and family and will be available to view, download, and order prints.
